With her inimitable enthusiastic style, Marie introduces you to the world of emulsions. Passion is evident in everything she says. Even when she talks about plastic pots and mixing cups, she managed to enthuse me so much that I wanted to leave everything behind and start myself. But, and this is important: Marie knows what she is talking about. Everything she tells you almost casually in her videos indicates a very thorough knowledge of the subject. And another thing: she knows how to get you to formulate in an almost playful way, because the framework she presents here is rock solid. In a friendly manner, she helps you step by step to create a first formula. It starts with finding a simple title for your creation, and from there you can think further. I think it is an incredible achievement how she manages to achieve this in just one workshop. Impressive!

The DIY Lotion Workshop was excellent. Marie walks you through the entire process from start to finish with informative details and practical instruction. It is a worthwhile investment in your formulating journey. Looking forward to new workshop releases.

If you are new to DIY skincare, or have a few dozen bottles under your belt… this class surely will have you feeling much more confident in your ability to begin to understand the science behind emulsions & give you so much more confidence in your ability to create your own recipes. I have taken many a class, and read many different courses on how to gain more traction in enjoying positive lotiony outcomes & (hopefully) avoiding tragedies. After all there IS a learning curve :/ Marie helps give you a boost of confidence and minimize having to trash your concoctions entirely. Since doing the DIY Lotion Workshop I have begun to confidently make my very own recipes, and using my copious notes (thanks Marie for this valuable lesson too), should something be ‘off’ I can see what I need to tweak as I further my exploration in the wondrous field of making all things lotiony! This course single-handedly gave me so much more confidence in my ability to target better percentages of humectants, additives, oils, waxes, and emulsifiers. I feel like I am actually “graduating” in my understanding! I recently moved, but can NOT wait to get settled and get back to creating my concoctions! While traveling (& subsequently running out of my DIY goodies) I read labels on store bought products SO differently, actually understanding the label & it’s listed ingredients, knowing right off the bat how this product might feel based off of the formulation. What?!!! Did NOT know that I would come to learn this much!!! Mahalo Marie for all of the tireless work you invest to help those of us who tire of not having exactly what we want in our skincare, and settling for what is sold.

I had made many lotions before taking Marie’s workshop but something was off. I never could seem to get the right consistency and even light lotions felt heavy and too occlusive. Marie’s workshop helped me see that I was using more emulsifier than necessary and introduced me properly to esters for a lighter, yet still emollient skin feel. This has been a game changer. I’m now happier with my formulations and more confident my formulations will be more appealing to those I gift them to and one day hope to sell. Her cheat sheet and spreadsheet are also indispensable. The cheat sheet keeps me clear on working through the 10-step process and the spreadsheet saves so much time and provides great guidance right on the sheet. Well done Marie. Thank you for the lotion workshop. I’m also loving the Powder-to-Foam workshop right now for a real eco-friendly foamy goodness experience.

Good content that lasted about 2 to 3 hours. I wanted more advance information on the chemical and physical properties of emulsifier's during step 4B. As well as their chemistry regarding molecular interactions between phases. I also wanted to know how skin cell membranes interact with different emulsifier functional groups (which ones to avoid and ones that are beneficial).

This was a fantastic workshop! I had made a few lotions following formulas I found online before, but after watching the videos I felt a lot more confident experimenting and writing my own formulas. And the formulation spreadsheet is a huge help too.

Extremely helpful! Before this workshop I tried some diy recipes that didn’t come out too great. Found there is a lot more to lotion than I was aware and this workshop breaks down every step. Now I’m coming up with my own formulations and couldn’t be happier!

After taking Marie's free course, I started experimenting with different formulations but was often dissatisfied with the results. I spent excessive time researching what changes to make and figuring out which information to trust. At first, I was hesitant to invest in a workshop, but I'm so glad I did! It has saved me a lot of time, and now I can create formulations that I genuinely like. The lotion formula spreadsheet has made the formulation process much simpler, and the cheat sheet has been incredibly helpful.

THE DIY Workshop was wonderful! This workshop helped to explain the basics of formulating a lotion. I was frustrated in trying to figure out the percentages and how big the oil phase should be and, what the purpose of the water phase is then, I took the workshop and understood how a formulation works. I wanted to formulate a lotion that was moisturizing but not tacky or looked oily on my hands. By taking this workshop, I started to understand the basics of percentages and the oil phase and water phase. In return, I have developed a lotion that is silky soft like powder and moisturizing!! Thank you !!!

This workshop is fabulous! I have been making lotions and creams for over ten years with somewhat inconsistent results. Marie’s DYI Lotion Workshop is clear and easy to follow yet contains a wealth of details about individual ingredients, steps to follow when making a formulation, tips and tricks to troubleshoot problems and soooo much more! The videos are short yet packed with details that are invaluable in your formulating process. Since finishing the workshop, I have been much more consistent with the quality of my creams and lotions. I now realize why I was experiencing some of the problems with certain emulsifiers and ingredients. The formulation cheat sheet is a life saver for keeping the details of the videos close at hand. I refer to it frequently when making a new formula. As a bonus, the formulation calculating spreadsheet saves so much time, effort and avoids making costly mistakes. It’s genius! Not sure how I ever lived without it.

I have been making body butters for awhile but always intimated to make a lotion. Im so glad I made the decision to purchase this workshop. The workshop was so informative, I felt confident in formulating my first lotion. You explained everything in a way that was easy to follow, well thought out and ssh many tips! I have had so much fun experimenting with new products and formulations.
